{"id":236,"date":"2011-06-12T17:03:42","date_gmt":"2011-06-12T09:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ckphoto.net\/blog\/?p=236"},"modified":"2011-07-08T00:59:40","modified_gmt":"2011-07-07T16:59:40","slug":"bukit-timah-railway-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ckphoto.net\/blog\/2011\/06\/bukit-timah-railway-station","title":{"rendered":"Bukit Timah Railway Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 11 June 2011, the <a href=\"http:\/\/nss.org.sg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nature Society of Singapor<\/a>e organised a walk along the proposed <a title=\"About the Green Corridor Proposal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thegreencorridor.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\">Green Corrido<\/a>r which aims to preserve the historic significance as well as the nature surrounding it after the KTM railway line ceases operation come 30 June 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Being avid photographers interested in historic\/old places, a friend <a href=\"http:\/\/bigbert.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gilbert<\/a> and I decided to join the walk and take some photos as the fate of the place will be unknown when it&#8217;s decommissioned.<\/p>\n<p>Organised by Eugene and led by Margie Hall of the NSS, the walk takes us through the Bukit Timah Railway Station, Clementi Woodlands and ending at Old Holland Road. More than 80 people joined the walk.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the walk, Margie explained to us the brief history of the station and the railway line.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2533\/5823114309_f2ff6c7413_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"429\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Margie Hall from the Nature Society of Singapore (in white T-shirt and vest) briefing the participants of the walk.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Soon after, a train pulls over at the station to exchange tokens. The KTM still uses the old token system at this station whereby the train driver will receive a token from the station to give them the authority to travel along the track. Unfortunately we are not near enough to the station to photograph the process, hopefully we get to have another go before it closes. It looks very easy but actually takes a lot of strength to operate it.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5200\/5823117973_4672cd79c1_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"429\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">A lady tries her hands at operating one of the signalling levers while another takes a photograph.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Interestingly, while most of the building looks quite alright, the north wall of the building looks quite dilapidated and in need of restoration. Unfortunately no photography was allowed inside. Before we left, we asked Hashim&#8217;s permission to take a portrait of him.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 429px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2535\/5823119007_3de23d8796_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"640\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hashim, the station master<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After thanking Hashim, we moved along, following the track southwards. By then, the group has moved very far ahead.
